Raising Urban Chickens

About

We started raising chickens again a few years ago after having not done so in many years. We built our own coop, went to the grange and came home with a truck load of supplies and a noisy box of chicks. Its been an experience for sure.

Our decision to raise chickens came after watching the video Food, Inc. I was completely disgusted by the way large corporate chicken farms are “growing” our poultry and eggs. If you ever need convincing that raising your own chickens is a good idea, watch that documentary video.

We’ve learn a lot about how our food is processed and have substantially changed where we get our food. Part of that change became the chicken coop idea and the desire to have fresh eggs from happy chickens. The more we grow our own food or support farmers markets and small farms, the less demand there will be for manufactured food. We inform food producers and our government by our spending habits. We need to maintain integrity in our food sources from steroids and brutle animal living conditions and pesticides in our manufactured feed.

We know that our eggs are fresh from well-fed happy chickens.

We actually enjoy our little chicken coop and hope to inspire you to raise a few yourself.
